10 weird facts about coffee you did not know

Wohooo we are almost getting to the finish line, launch day loading, 9 more days to go.We are through with the encouragement contest so we are going straight to the product masterclass and the Instagram giveaway. I also have a podcast which I will like you to listen to, click here to listen to it.

Today I will be sharing with you 10 facts about coffee which you probably did not know.

1-The name coffee transitioned from 3 different meanings as used by the different countries where it was grown-

  • Qahwal al bun- Arabic –meaning wine of bean,Shortened to Qahwa

  • Kahve- As named by Turkish people.

  • Koffie- As named by the Dutch

  • Coffee- As named by the English.

2-Coffee beans are not actually beans, it’s a cherry like berry, so we should be calling it coffee cherries, the cherries are de-pulped and the seed extracted. It’s the seed that looks like a bean after the washing and processing. Coffee grows in a bush, people have imagined it grows in a tree but its not so.

3-The term cappuccino was coined from the fact that the light brown coffee drink looked like a Capuchin Monks garb. I guess we have to thank the Catholics for that one, another thing we should be thanking the Catholics for is that Pope Clement VIII stopped the ban of coffee in the 1600’s. Imaging going to jail for taking coffee, totally hilarious I believe, but then it must have been a serious matter then. I heard it was even banned in the Arab world in 16th century because they believed it stimulated radical thinking.

4-The word espresso means to be forced out, this refers to the pressure the ground beans goes through as hot water is forced through it to produce the espresso as we know it. Espresso contains 2.5% fat. Do you want to get a free espresso maker? click on the picture below, you just have to pay a small shipping fee and its all yours.

5-The most expensive coffee in the world, Kopi luwak is gotten from the excreta of a Sumatran wild cat named the civet cat. The cherries are eaten by the cat and excreted , the coffee bean is then extracted and washed to produce the Kopi luwak. You can call it expensive poop and you won't be far from the truth. We have it on the store, go get your share. If you are a cat lover and a coffee lover now you have a coffee that combines two of your loves, lol.

6-Newyorkers drink seven times as much coffee as the whole of US, no wonder there is so much activity in Newyork, the city that never sleeps. Hahaha it must be all that coffee at work.

7-The smell of coffee literally wakes you up, it has such an effect on the brain. Perhaps its time I thought of making coffee room sprays, perhaps it will help with the grogginess I feel in the mornings. Click on the picture below and get a mug like this.

8-There are only two varieties of coffee beans in the world, Its either Arabica or Robusta. The Arabica beans is much more popular and constitutes 70% of the worlds coffee.

9-Brazil and Colombia supply about 40% of the worlds coffee. Brazil alone dominated the coffee market for years. Talk of prosperity through coffee and you have it in Brazil. Its interesting because of the peculiar way coffee came to Brazil, you can read it on the my post about Coffee with good looks. It also makes me think that its not about what you have but how you are able to use it to your benefit. Do you want some Brazil Santos coffee, click on the picture below.

10--Coffee was first discovered in Ethiopia in Africa by a goat herder, Tried first by a monk. Africa should have been the one dominating the worlds market with coffee, you would imagine, again , its not about what you have but what you do with what you have. A great person I know once said
