Updated: Jul 19, 2018

Stovetop coffee pot often called a Moka pot is as old as when the Italian inventor Luigi de Potti invented the stove stop coffee pot in 1933. It makes an espresso like coffee which has almost the same intense feel in the mouth although it does not produce the creamer as an espresso machine would.

You see, making coffee is an art which every coffee connoisseur will tell you that it takes time to acquire and develop. So if you are just started your coffee journey or perhaps you already make your home brewed coffee but have always used the electric machines, it’s time to try the real deal as it was done for some years now ,the Moka pot way.

A Mokapot or stove top coffee pot constitutes of the following components

  • A bottom part called the water chamber which contains the water

  • A Coffee ground holder which has fine mesh in it to allow steam work through the coffee grounds, its called the coffee basket.

  • A coffee filter which is directly above it to help the liquid filter through it without the grounds

  • An upper chamber which collects the coffee liquid, some call it percolator.

So what’s the mechanism of the stovetop coffee pot

It’s a simple mechanism, the water boils within a sealed environment which produces steam of about 1-2 bars of pressure, this steam forces itself through the coffee grounds to start the brewing, the coffee grounds now release its coffee juice which is pushed by the same pressure into the upper chamber and then collected by you the drinker.

  • Pour your coffee grind into the coffee basket, make sure its evenly distributed and then screw on to the water chamber.
