There is nothing more energizing in the mornings like the aroma of a brewing coffee, It literally wakes up your senses, that's until you take a sip of your home brewed coffee and you wonder what just happened here? why does my coffee not taste like the one I buy from the coffee shops? anyways, you probably manage your home-brewed coffee like that, you throw it into your mouth and ignore the bad taste and move on. After all you can get a better tasting one on your way to work or perhaps later, but why will you continue to take a bad tasting coffee when you can have a better one without having to get to the coffee shop. Have you ever wondered why your coffee tastes bad all of a sudden?
This post will address 5 reasons why your coffee tastes bad and how you can fix it.
1- Equipment: You know you can buy the best coffee beans in the whole world and still have a bad tasting coffee because you do not have the right equipment you need for brewing your coffee, That is why in my Free eBook, the 5 exceptional brewing methods, I explained the different types of equipment and how you can use it to brew your coffee to give you the best taste. Getting the right type of coffee brewing equipment is your first step in getting that lovely tasting coffee you so desire. It does not have to be anything fancy like you see at the coffee shops even though there are fancy ones though. To fix this problem, read my coffee guide and determine the type of equipment you need to buy, purchase one and you are well on your way to getting a good quality cup of coffee
2 Your Brewing Method: What type of brewing method are you using? different types of coffee drinks requires different brewing methods, for example an espresso requires forceful injection of hot water through the finely ground beans so as to get the espresso coffee juice plus the creamer that usually accompanies it. If you use an equipment that does not apply that pressure required to extract the espresso you may fail in your quest to get an espresso drink.
Most espresso machines are a little pricey because of the application of pressure which is usually powered by an electricity, but if you want a simple cup of espresso without the fanfare of carrying about an electric powered espresso machine, then your best bet is a hand pressure powered espresso coffee maker like the one below. You can get it from the store for a little less than 50 dollars and if you sign up for my email list. you can get a discount code which you can use to reduce the price further. Your brewing method can determine how well your coffee tastes, an over brewed coffee will taste bitter.
3 Your Water: Water is a major component of coffee brewing, you can't brew coffee without water right? but do you know that the quality of your water can damage the taste of your coffee. Coffee is like a very demanding mistress which must be treated delicately if you want to get the best out of her. So your water quality must be good for it to bring out the best in your coffee. Water quality means two things, the hardness of the water and the pH of the water. When water is hard, it means it has some dissolved minerals in it, that is why coffee shops have to descale their machines after some time of use if their water quality is hard. Sometimes even the descaling does not help because the coffee may still taste bad after descaling.
To test if your water quality is good, buy a test strip and insert into a sample glass of water from your tap, take the reading according to the test strip and determine what the quality of your water is. Water that is hard has a lot of dissolved minerals in it which often changes the taste of your coffee. To correct the hardness of your water, buy a simple home filter to use and remove some of the dissolved minerals in the water, remember also that the pH of water also affects your coffee, a balanced pH makes for a better tasting coffee. Another factor of water that can affect your coffee is the temperature of the water which you use in making your coffee to understand how to boil water for your coffee properly, get my free coffee guide.
4 Your coffee beans: The quality of the coffee beans which you may want to use for the coffee is very important factor, you can not make a good quality coffee from a bad coffee beans. Freshness of your beans matter, especially as it relates to when your beans was roasted, that is why our coffee beans which will sell on the online store always has a hand written roast date, we do not pre- print our labels before hand. Your roast date is written down once your coffee beans have been freshly roasted and packed. We pride ourselves in making sure that you get your coffee beans fresh and timely delivered to you so that you can get the best out of it. 5 Storage: Except you live just behind a roaster in that case you will wake up every morning to go get a fresh roasted bag of coffee beans, you will definitely need to store your coffee beans. If your coffee beans is not properly stored, the quality will depreciate until it turns bad. The greatest enemy of coffee is oxygen, once oxygen gets in contact with your beans, the bean quality depreciates, that is why coffee is often packaged in tightly sealed degassing bags, the type we have in our store. So to properly store your coffee beans you have to get the right kind of storage can with degassing valves too, this enables the C02 to escape while preserving the freshness.
In my online store we have a very beautiful and simple coffee storage can on sale right now, this simple can makes it easy for you to store your coffee beans, it come attached with a dial which you set to know when your coffee was roasted and so helps you calculate how long your coffee beans has been on storage.
